Analysis of Lexmark C925 Performance

Back in October 2010, Lexmark announced several new printers that primarily target businesses and workgroups. The Lexmark C925 can be the device for your business if you prefer to have a reliable dedicated colour printer. This does not have multifunction capabilities so printing is the main focus here. If your business already has a reliable colour printer, getting a new printer like the Lexmark C925 can be risky especially since the C925 costs about £1,800. While the Lexmark C925 has an incredible feature set, you can get a better idea on the overall value if you take a closer look on the hardware's performance in various angles. The performance levels must be convincing enough to encourage you to use this printer without making any upgrades in the next few years.

Usability Performance

The usability performance revolves around setting up the device and getting operations done quality. The
Lexmark C925 gets some high scores in this area because of the touchscreen display. The 4.3-inch screen resembles most touchscreen smartphones today and the use of colour means that you can navigate through the functions rather easily. The display is large enough to contain four icons where you can configure various settings of the printer. It also lets you check any workflow solutions that can really ramp up your productivity and you can conveniently view documents along with any pending print jobs.
Creating a print job is very simple because you can give the C925 a file to print by simply copying the files to a flash drive and inserting it in the Direct USB port so it can read them. This may not be your primary method of printing but it can come in handy if you happen to have some files in your travel USB drive that need urgent printing. You can now carry these types of operations without connecting a PC which is great on the usability side.

Printing Performance

Printing performance is exceptional as it uses Colour LED technology. This allows the print speed to be pretty steady at 30 letter pages per minute for colour or black settings. It is a bit faster if you use the A4 paper. Duplex printing is also supported and quite speedy as well with 26 spm. The 800 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM greatly contributes to overall performance of the system. You can optionally upgrade the memory to 1280 MB. Doing so will allow higher resolutions to be printed at faster speeds. This is great if you plan on frequently using the max resolution settings (600 x 600 dpi).

Networking Performance

The networking performance is pretty standard since it has the typical Ethernet 10/100/1000 BaseTX built-in. There are also some optional network ports so you can add wireless or Gigabit Ethernet features which is recommended for bigger networks. It also has some utilities that make it easy to set up including the Wireless Setup Utility if you have the wireless add-on and the IP Setup Utility so you can configure the network settings.

Overall Value

Although the Lexmark C925 is quite pricey, it serves as a highly affordable colour printer especially if you are dealing with A3 paper. With this functionality, the C925 basically has the qualities of a decent photo printer but you get extra benefits such as the touchscreen, networking capabilities, and support for multiple media types. Combined with the decent printing performance, the Lexmark C925 passes in overall value.
